I remain convinced that the real answer is: vacationers, regardless of their nationality! Let's not forget that the Cubans who frequent the beaches of Varadero are often people living in other cities and also coming on vacation to Cuba (in hotels or casas). At least, those who are careless. I noticed this in Varadero, but also in Quebec, on the East Coast of the United States, in France, and so on. On vacation, some people, many of whom have more or less abused refreshing alcohol, forget that they are in a collective space where they should be even more respectful than at home. Instead, it's quite the opposite! And I think it gets worse in an "all-inclusive" because vacationers think they've paid to include cleaning of the beach and pool area. “I clean my house all year round, so I’m definitely not going to do it on vacation!” There is a difference between cleaning and not leaving all your trash on the beach or near the pool!!! It's as if the word "vacation" (especially in a group!) meant that everything is allowed and that we can forget the rules of good manners! But the trash cans were full! So what ? Nothing stops you from putting your empty plastic cups in your bag and throwing them in another bin! In the small park near your home in Quebec, where your children play every day, if a trash can is full, do you throw your waste next to it or do you look for another one? Haven't you noticed that when someone lets go, others tend to say, "Others have done it, so I can do it too." It's so easy to clear customs... Do you want to be part of the solution rather than the problem? Here are some suggestions: Inform hotel staff if there are not enough trash cans on the beach or near the pool, if they are full, etc. The more guests who report it, the more hotel managers will seek to find a solution. Bring a reusable plastic bag so you can bring your trash back if the trash cans are full. Bring a glass or thermos cup to avoid using plastic cups. More and more people are also bringing reusable straws to avoid using those that are thrown away after use. More and more hotel chains are starting to impose these rules. And the thermos containers really help keep drinks cold, which is very nice in the Varadero heat! For smokers, a small ashtray does not take up space and prevents your butts from ending up on the beach and in the sea. Here is mine, "beach special", next to my thermos cup. And thank you to the people who, when they walk on the beach, take the trouble to pick up the trash they see, even if it is not their own. Do you always want to leave a few glasses or papers on the beach because you are “happy with alcohol”? This photo clearly shows that Varadero beach extends all along the peninsula. The vast majority of hotels have direct access to it. Here are the ones that don't have it and for which you have to cross Avenida Primera to get there. It's only a 5-10 minute walk, but some people prefer really direct access. There are also other hotels that are not sold as all-inclusive by our Canadian tour operators, such as the Pullman (yes there is a Pullman hotel in Varadero too but it is very different from the one in Cayo Coco!). Mar del Sur Palma Real Sunbeach Acuazul Verazul Las Palmas section of Cuatro Palmas (Cuatro Palmas is directly on the beach but the Las Palmas section requires crossing Avenida Primera to get to the beach) Not offered by Canadian all-inclusive tour operators: Hostal Boulevard Varadero Pullman Varadero Dos Marest It seems that from Melia Marina Varadero you also have to walk a certain distance to reach the beach but that the journey is very reasonable and safe. Some members will also tell you that resorts that are very large can sometimes require more walking than those that are located downtown but not directly on the beach. ;-)

The more we travel, the more we discover accessories or things that can add to the quality of our stay or make our lives easier. Prevent the beach towel from flying off our chair The two simplest tips shared by our members are to place an old t-shirt on the back of the chair or to use simple Velcro strips. Ensuring that our beverage remains cold, avoiding trips to the beach bar and contributing to better ecological and health management Several chains and hotels in the South have taken a very significant turn over the past year or two to try to reduce their ecological impact, among other things by trying to eliminate plastic glasses and straws. A simple contribution we can make is to use thermos cups. ;-) Get rid of sand easily For about $2, you can get a mini broom (about 6 inches by 6 inches without the handle) that you can use to remove sand from your beach chair and even your legs. Not "glamorous" of course, but very useful, especially for people who are sensitive to sand flea bites... For my part, I won't do without it!

Another place to party! La Comparsita (open-air nightclub) This open-air nightclub is located very close to Calle 62. The opening is at 11 p.m. and the party lasts quite late into the night. This nightclub is very popular with Cubans but there are also tourists. The music is varied and there is also entertainment on the course. Bands also perform there. Baggage allowed in the cabin if you are traveling with a baby I am traveling with a baby, what can I bring with me in the cabin? Here is what René Lopez Zayas shared with us today. "Useful information for your stay in Varadero, Cuba. Based on the experience of the last outings in Havana and the exchange with customers, I would like to advise Canadian or European travelers to bring, apart from the equally relevant bank cards, some cash in dollars USD or EUROS respectively , for possible expenses in Havana or elsewhere, such as souvenirs, drinks or meals, or to change a few USD or Canadian dollars, or even euros as the case may be, into Cuban pesos for the same purpose. Most merchants and owners of bars and restaurants in Havana, as well as taxi drivers, currently have difficulty accepting Canadian dollars, mainly due to ignorance of this currency which is much more popular in tourist resorts. Business owners in the capital often only accept USD dollars or euros, instead of Cuban pesos (CUP). In Varadero the informal exchange rate is very anarchic. A CAD or USD dollar, as well as the Euro, can be exchanged at very different rates, but always advantageous compared to the exchange rates of the official hotel office, maintained by the Central Bank of Cuba In the bars and restaurants of the city of Havana inflation is hitting hard, like everywhere in Cuba at the moment. For example, a coca cola is sold today in Habana Vieja for around 100 CUP and a beer for around 150 CUP with rare exceptions. Cocktails are sold for around 250 CUP. It is therefore better not to rush and to get the best possible exchange rate, via your Cuban friends, acquaintances or employees of hotel facilities, while being careful of scams, the latent possibility of coming across unknown with malicious intent, since it takes everything to make this world. To prepare for your next trip to Cuba, make sure to bring your bank cards of course, but also enough of your money in cash and only change into Cuban pesos in small quantities tailored to occasional needs. First tip: don’t buy cigars at the beach On our first day at the beach, the lifeguard came to greet us and… offer us “good cigars that his uncle makes with top quality tobacco”. Everyone will tell you, it's not a good idea to buy a cigar at the beach and you risk being disappointed. Cigars are sold in state stores found throughout the city and at the Plaza Las Americas shopping center. Prices should be the same everywhere.
